Roundabout
Traffic keeps flowing instead of stopping dead, so counts bunch up in the middle. The 8–9 band earns its keep here; a dead-empty Under 7 or a gridlocked Over 10 turns up less often.
Motorway
Flow arrives in waves. A green upstream releases a surge that sails past 10; a lull can drop you under 7 in the same feed. Extremes pay more, and on open road they show up more than you would guess.
Bridge / single lane
A choke point caps how many cars can clear the line in one window. Lower counts dominate, so Under 7 is live far more often here than on a wide junction.
City crossroads
Signal phases run the show. Watch one full light cycle before the lock and you can feel whether the next window opens on a red hold or a green release.
